Royal IHC has officially handed over the new trailing suction hopper dredger SEAWAY to dredging company Boskalis. Following a series of successful sea trials, the vessel was delivered on 20 July. The addition gives Boskalis one of the largest dredging ships in the world.
Impressive dimensions
The SEAWAY measures 178 metres in length and 38 metres in width. It offers a hopper capacity of 31,000 cubic metres, placing it among the largest trailing suction hopper dredgers (TSHDs) in operation worldwide. Thanks to this substantial loading capacity, the ship can move large volumes of sand and sediment in a single run, significantly improving efficiency on large-scale projects.
A focus on sustainability
The design places clear emphasis on lower energy consumption and a reduced environmental footprint. For the maritime manufacturing sector, the project illustrates how heavy equipment and sustainable technology are increasingly going hand in hand.
