How is the weight calculated?

Weight is volume × density. The calculator works out the volume from the shape and your dimensions (in mm) and multiplies it by the density of the material. For a plate that is length × width × thickness; for a round bar π/4 × diameter² × length.

Frequently asked questions

What is the density of steel?
Structural steel (S235/S355) has a density of about 7.85 g/cm³. Stainless 304 is around 7.9 and 316 around 8.0 g/cm³.
Can I calculate the weight of a tube?
Yes. Choose "Round tube", enter the outer diameter, wall thickness and length — the hollow core is subtracted automatically.
Which units do I use?
Enter all dimensions in millimetres (mm). The result is shown in kilograms (kg), per piece and as a total.
How accurate is the result?
The calculation is theoretical, based on nominal dimensions and standard densities. Actual weights can vary by a few percent.
